Silchester Roman Town (lat: 51.35, long: -1.08). To see this you will need to use Google Earth’s historical imagery function and scroll back to the image of 31/12/2005. I find this deeply fascinating, the degree to which you can actually still see the street grid of Calleva Atrebatum as it was laid out in the first century AD – the crop marks are not new: they were already known in the 18th century – you can also see them from the ground. The small square trench in the northwest of the city is insula IX which is being investigated by Reading University
