Het blijft iconisch. En het blijft het laatste Radioheadconcert in Nederland dat ik miste tot ik niet naar het Westerpark kon in 2008.

Ja, dat was op 24 november ja. In 1991. Zonder Queen had ik dus nooit een instrument aangeraakt. En Queen II is nog steeds een van de beste albums van de jaren ’70. Dus.

Settefinestre (lat: 42.430; long: 11.327). You can easily spot the terraces of the gardens surrounding this huge Roman Villa. Note how the villa is positioned in the landscape: on a low hill, slightly below the top. The surrounding countryside which is relatively flat could easily produce crops on a large scale. The villa architecture played with this landscape: it included three large luxury rooms – one of which even was a corinthian oecus – with nice views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.

Silchester Roman Town (lat: 51.35, long: -1.08). To see this you will need to use Google Earth’s historical imagery function and scroll back to the image of 31/12/2005. I find this deeply fascinating, the degree to which you can actually still see the street grid of Calleva Atrebatum as it was laid out in the first century AD – the crop marks are not new: they were already known in the 18th century – you can also see them from the ground. The small square trench in the northwest of the city is insula IX which is being investigated by Reading University

Bruxelles Midi, gisteravond, 17:45u. De rij wachtenden bij de Taxi’s stond tot in het stationsgebouw. Ik heb dat daar vaker gezien – het is een schoolvoorbeeld van een niet functionerende markt waarbij vraag en aanbod maar niet bij elkaar willen komen. Ik keek er even naar, en bestelde toen maar een Affligem Blond.
